Childhood Cancer Research
June 13th was a cloudy, stormy day with pouring rain at 1 pm when the tournament started but at 1:15 pm the sky cleared and it turned out to be a perfect afternoon to hit the golf course. The 17th annual"Golf for a Cure" event was held at Riverway Golf Course in Burnaby with its championship course, friendly staff, beautiful banquet room and superb dinner. It was heartwarming to see so many familiar faces and with everyone's generous support we raised over $100,000 - the most to date! Thanks to John Audia who went above and beyond to reach a new goal for this event!
Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch with Italian sausages from our friends at Columbus Meat Market. Along the course participants enjoyed coffee and Baileys over ice cream, barbequed skewers with Sangrias from Browns Social House, Jell-O Shooters courtesy of RE/MAX, Hardy Maier Home Team, delicious BBQed burgers done to perfection from the Burnaby Fire Fighters, tacos and tequila bar from Ray at The Pawn Shop and Cioffi's Meat Market & Deli supplied delicious Panini's. Golfers stayed refreshed with The Mortgage Advantage juice bar and beer donated by Molson Canadian from River’s Reach Pub.
Golfers had four great chances for ‘hole in one’ prizes. Sal Audia & Frank Spartano from GNK Insurance along with Intact Insurance provided an opportunity to win $25,000 while Vince Valente of Carter GM provided three chances to win; the first, a 4-day, 3 nights Golf Vacation at a Fairmont Resort; the second, a set of Tailor-made Irons and the third, a Travis Mathew signature outfit and $500 shopping spree.
